Camping is one of those things Bonnie and I just can't seem to get enough of.

I think most everyone has camped out at one time or another. It seems very popular as a childhood memory or as one of those things you did with your kids as they were growing up. Ahh yes, those were good times. We get older and it seems too much of a bother or too uncomfortable because of our age and the lack of flexibility. As a last resort, some of us will attempt to regain the good times by purchasing a large RV or trailer that has all the comforts of home, all the bells and whistles and well ..... everything! This is GREAT!.........But Wait!....this is not what we wanted. The gas mileage is less than poor, it needs to be maintained constantly, the time it takes to get set up is just as bad as that old tent, Some of the best camps don't even have RV sites, and now it sits in the driveway 90 percent of the time just withering away. We just wanted to go camping!
There is nothing wrong with having an RV or a trailer. Bonnie and I own an old Apache hard side popup that we take on some of our trips. I am also in the process of designing a teardrop style trailer that I hope to build soon. Nothing wrong with that at all, but the old reliable tent type camping has it's advantages also. It is so inexpensive and has such great benefits on the camping experience that I think it should be number one on the list of ways to go camping.

I would like to motivate those people out their that would like to go camping again but dread some of the memories of uncomfortable sleep, fighting to get the tent up, having to bring all that stuff and so on.

Bonnie and I are no athletes believe me. We are in our mid 40's, a little out of shape, and little over weight. We find that camping is a great way to deal with both of those problems along with enjoying the outdoors, eating good food, relaxing and just having a fantastic time together.
The suggestions on this site mainly deal with tent camping and hiking, but we use the same ideas for trailer camping and even on those occasions were we stay in a motel. The concept is the same and always makes our trips more enjoyable.

Our Country is full of great Camping opportunities
Years ago, I used to promise myself and my family that we would do some real camping some day. You know travel far away, visit those places you see on TV. Well, sometimes life gets in the way and either the money or the time just isn't there.
My wife and I were talking one day and came to the conclusion that it was very possible that those far away trips may never come. If they did come that would be great but why were we cheating ourselves out of something that we like to do just because of money and time?

Well, needless to say the local maps came out and we were on our way. We now go camping as often as we can. Usually once a month. There are so many places locally. I guess we just never thought about enjoying the wonders in our own back yard. Most of our trips are under an hour away! We have a small County Park called Gemini Springs near us. Its only down the road about 10 miles. We went camping there and had just as much fun as we would going 1000 miles away.

In the pages to follow I am going to suggest some of the things that work for us. I hope to add more as time goes on but this is at least a starting point.

I hope, whether you are an RV, trailer, tent or all the above type camper you will try some of our suggestions. If you put your mind to you can make your camping experience better than you have ever remembered.
